Why I prefer the .45 Auto

Damnit, I got involved in a caliber war on my friend Hsoi's blog.

The weird thing is that we both agree that typical pistol rounds are not great "threat stoppers", and shot placement matters more than caliber size. (Shot placement matters no matter what you shoot, for that matter.)

But, having said that, I prefer the .45 Auto to 9mm or .40 S&W, or any other common pistol caliber.

I stumbled upon this article by Jim Higginbotham, and I thought it did a pretty good job of explaining why and even detailed some things I hadn't thought of.

I will say, that I don't intend to imply one caliber is unequivocally better than any other. My "every day carry" is in fact a 9mm, and no I don't feel like a hypocrite for that. I carry everyday for about 10-12 hours a day, and having a smaller and lighter pistol, albeit not in my preferred caliber, is an acceptable tradeoff to me.
